The pillow guide

Pillows are sold by names and slept on in inches. This page puts the inches back: what each size in our range measures, which case it fills properly, and how many belong on which bed.

The sizes, in inches

Standard runs about 20×26 inches, Queen 20×30, King 20×36, and the Euro throw squares 26×26. Our Standard/Queen pillow is one cut that fills both case sizes: snug in a Standard case, roomy in a Queen. A King pillow is not taller, only longer, and its extra ten inches are for a King bed's width or for sleepers who slide a pillow behind their back to read.

Matching pillow to case

A case an inch or two shorter than the pillow gives the plump hotel look. A case much longer leaves empty fabric flapping at the end. If your cases are King, buy King pillows. Everything else in the range takes the Standard/Queen cut. The sateen, cooling and silk cases on this site each list the pillow size they are cut for.

How many per bed

The hotel arithmetic: two sleeping pillows per person, plus shams or Euros if the bed is dressed. A Queen bed takes four Standard/Queen pillows comfortably, and a King takes four King pillows or six in the mixed style. That is why the pillows here sell in pairs, and why the dress-a-bed page counts in pairs too.
